It works for Youtube videos as well as Blip.tv videos, Dailymotion videos and many, many more video sites. The Video Link Enhancer can enrich your user's experience, whatever content your site features: Twilight, The Office, filmmaking, almost any topic can be enhanced with in-page videos. Simply add one line of code to your page and we'll do the rest of the work for you, just like in this example. Try it now by hovering over the links in this paragraph.

Installation Instructions

Setting this up is super easy. Simply copy the following line of code into your site's template code on any page where you would like the Video Link Enhancer to run. Put it at the bottom, just before </body>

<script src="http://www.videosurf.com/js/video_link_enhancer"></script>

That's it!

Wordpress Plugin

The VideoSurf Video Link Enhancer is also available as a plug-in for WordPress. The WordPress Plug-In system makes it simple to install the Video Link Enhancer on your WordPress blog to start enhancing your video links in seconds! Turn video links in your posts and comments into playable inline videos. When your readers hover their mouse over links to videos, an in-line player appears that allows them to watch the linked video without having to leave your blog. Videos from hundreds of sites are supported, including Hulu, Youtube, Metacafe, Dailymotion, Comedy Central, Yahoo! Video, Google Video, Fancast, and many, many more.

Advanced Options

There are some advanced options that you can optionally use by appending url parameters to the /js/video_link_enhancer url. For instance: /js/video_link_enhancer?link_selector_prefix=p

  • link_selector_prefix: By default, the script acts on all links on the page. To limit it to only certain areas of your page, you can add a css selector here. This may also have performance benefits. Make sure to url encode any #'s. e.g. link_selector_prefix=%23content will limit it to only links inside the container on your page with id of "content", or link_selector_prefix=p will limit it to only links inside p tags. We're using JQuery's selector syntax here and will be appending " a" to whatever you provide.
  • link_selector_suffix: In addition to the prefix, you can optionally add a suffix to the link selector. This may be useful if you want to limit the script to act on only links with a certain class or that contain certain text. For example, appending the Enhancer's URL with "link_selector_suffix=%5Bhref*%3Dyoutube%5D" ([href*=youtube] unencoded), would limit the Enhancer to only YouTube links.
  • overlay_bg_color: Hex code of what you want the background color to be behind the embedded video.
  • overlay_text_color: Set the text color inside the overlay; useful if you change the background color.
  • add_link_icon: Set this value as "false" to remove the VideoSurf icon next to enhanced links.
