The PBS childrens television series Caillou is based upon the books by Christine L'Heureux, and was first aired on Canada's Teletoon in 1998. Simple and delightful animations, based on the book illustrations by Hélène Desputeaux, grace Caillou full episodes as the characters interact with family and friends, demonstrating care, warmth, love and making good choices. Geared toward 2 to 6 year olds, Caillou clips are charming and heart-warming for viewers of all ages.

Caillou's family consists of his mother, Doris, his father, Boris, and his little sister, Rosie. Other family members include Grandma and Grandpa. Caillou has many friends and neighbors who are frequently featured in Caillou videos. His neighbor Paul Hinkle, teacher Ms. Martin, bus driver Mr. Washington and babysitter Julie, provide mature perspectives and advice to Caillou and his friends Leo, Clementine, Sarah, Andre, Billy and the twins, Jeffrey and Jason. The American PBS version of Caillou videos also feature puppets such as Matthew Theodore Bear, Gilbert the Cat, Rexy, the toy dinosaur, and Deedee the squirrel.
