Video Search On Your TV: Syabas uses VideoSurf API in Their Developer Challenge! Sep 24, 20095:36 PDT
The C-200 set top media player brings digital video to your TV, and Syabas is having a contest to bring VideoSurf to the C-200!

Syabas Technology Inc, AKA Popcorn Hour, is using Videosurf.com’s APIs in their new developers’ contest, where the Grand Prize is a free C-200. That’s right, FREE.
What do you have to do to win?
The challenge is this: create a portal on the C-200 using VideoSurf.com’s API suite. With access to our powerful Search and Lookup APIs, plus the eight new APIs we just released, this contest offers developers a chance to build something truly groundbreaking - the first computer vision search application for TV.
There are just a few rules.
1) You must agree to the terms and conditions set forth by Syabas
2) Check out Videosurf.com and see how it is currently laid out. Syabas wants something with similar functionality. But they are encouraging developers improve on the design and of course translate it to a 10-ft experience. However, don’t forget the key elements.
• You must have a search bar.
• You must have a system of categories to be able to sort content.
3) Cool designs are nice, but functionality is even better! If it doesn’t work, is too slow, or too complicated, a cool design won’t be enough to win. But remember, UI matters and you’re creating the “Look/Feel” of a portal.
4) You will have until October 31st, 2009 (11:59 P.M. Pacific Standard Time) to submit your designs to Syabas. No submissions will be allowed after that time.
5) The winner will be announced November 15th, 2009.
To the winner goes…
1) Popcorn Hour’s newest C-200 device for free.
2) The winner will be announced via the Popcorn Hour website, on VideoSurf.com, and the Network Media Tank forums.
3) Bragging rights and the admiration of your peers.
4) If the winner passes muster, your entry will be featured on the MSP site.
You can check out the technical specs of the C-200 to see what a great opportunity this is, and follow this thread in the Popcorn Hour forums for updates and answers to any questions you may have about the C-200 or the contest. Questions specific to the VideoSurf API should be directed to api@videosurf.com.
Good luck!
