Lil Wayne Facing A Year In Jail

Hip hop artist Lil Wayne pleaded guilty today to a gun possession charge stemming from an incident where his tour bus was pulled over by patrol officers followed a concert. State PD stated they pulled the bus on suspicion of marijuana use by its occupants, and a loaded automatic hand gun that was identified as belonging to Lil Wayne was found by the officer.

Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, is one of rap’s most popular artists and was responsible for last year’s top album and currently has the number one single on Billboard’s pop charts. His sentencing, in which he is expected to receive a jail sentence of one year and one day, is scheduled for February. Return Ticket: Defending Champ Phillies Back In the WS

The Los Angeles Dodgers needed to win four games against the Phillies to make the World Series. They got one. Six months ago, they prepared for this season by playing chicken with uber-agent Scott Boras and his client, Manny Ramirez. After joining the Dodgers as a rent-a-player halfway through the 2008 season, Manny Fever swept Los Angeles and Ramirez’ bat powered the Dodgers to the 2008 playoffs. Los Angeles loved Manny, and bringing him back this year GM Ned Colletti’s top priority.

Several months and millions of dollars later, Ramirez was back in Dodger blue this spring, and today Los Angeles fans are wondering if it was worth it. The Phillies defeated the Dodgers last night with a barrage of home runs to take the series four games to one.

Earlier this year, Ramirez was suspended for 50 games thanks to a positive steroids test and the Dodgers cruised into the play offs in spite of him rather than because of him. As the boys in blue faced against defending World Series champs the Philadelphia Phillies this week in the National League Championships, they hoped Manny would be the factor that would prevent a repeat of last year’s NLCS, when those same Phillies knocked the Dodgers around en route to their title.

Los Angeles could forgive Manny, perhaps, had he made up for missing a third of the regular season by carrying the team when it counted and sending the Dodgers to the World Series. Instead, for the second year in a row the Phillies pummeled Dodger pitching and are headed to the World Series with a rare chance to repeat as champions by defeating the winner of the Yankees-Angels ALCS.

Despite a contract stand off that dragged out for months, Manny Ramirez is headed back to Los Angeles with his millions of Dodger dollars, as he and the rest of the team can only spectate - again - as the Phils get to play in the World Series.

ESPN’s Baseball Tonight looks at Manny’s deficiencies and break down the Phillies strengths and weaknesses moving in to the World Series:
