Fox Regional Sports Ads Are Just a Little Racist and a Lot Hilarious Jan 22, 20091:39 PST

Avenue Q taught us that everyone’s a little bit racist. This was especially true at Fox Regional Sports (now FSN) circa 1998 when these ads saw air. They gave us a showcase of the most popular “sports” in other countries. It’s a shame they are fictional–A-Rod would’ve done well in the Russian Slap.

Turkish Diving

Meet Murat Elhamri, ostensibly the Turkish version of Tony Siragusa reporting from the sidelines. He sets up the most powerful display of grace and balance that pleases not only this crowd, but if you listen carefully, at least 1 or 2 sheep.

Russian Slap

This ad is actually the closest thing to an actually-practiced sport. However, you can tell it’s a clear fake due to the lack of vodka.

Indian Piñata

I know what you’re thinking: this should be in Mexico. But you have to realize–if you can make this ad then huge populations of brown people all look alike anyway.

Chinese Logging

I bet you didn’t know the Chinese had their own Highland Games–only they do the caber toss in reverse.

South African Rodeo

The only reason this isn’t a real sport is because the South African cycling officials know how Lance Armstrong would unfairly dominate each year, unless maybe he was competing against Usain Bolt.
