As DJ AM, Goldstein rose through the nightclub ranks to become one of the most popular and well-known club DJ’s in history. Relationships with stars Nicole Richie and Mandy Moore further propelled him into the spotlight, but it was the deadly September, 2008 plane crash from which only he and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker survived that made him a household name.

Goldstein was a fixture at celebrity parties and the New York and Los Angeles club scenes. He has performed on albums by Madonna, Papa Roach, and Will Smith, and appeared as himself on reality shows and an episode of HBO’s Entourage.

Following the plane crash, doctors found and removed a life threatening blood clot from Goldstein’s leg. At the time, Goldstein was quoted as saying: “”In the burn center, they did a scan and found that I had a blood clot that in this flight could have traveled to my heart and I could have died. I have a great deal of faith that everything happens for a reason. I put myself in God’s hands.”

Early reports indicate that drug paraphernalia was found in the apartment along with Goldstein’s body, but no official cause of death has been determined.

The following video features Goldstein performing with his fellow survivor, Travis Barker, at the height of his career:
