New Hope For the Public Option?

Democrats on both sides of Congress are scrambling to find support for the so-called public option as a part of the health care reform bill. For several weeks, media consensus has painted any form of public option as a dead issue, particularly in the Senate, where having sixty votes in favor of the overall bill is crucial to preventing a Republican filibuster.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi are both searching for some form of public option that can receive the necessary votes for inclusion. These options include offering states the choice to opt out of the program, or deferring the public health care plan as a “triggered” event only instituted if private insurers fail to provide affordable health care for enough people.

President Obama has repeatedly stated his belief that a public run health insurance plan is the only way to ensure the private insurance companies are competing on a fair and honest level.

Angels Kill Yankees Rally With One Of Their Own

The American League Championship Series is getting interesting. What had appeared to be a formality in the New York Yankees unstoppable progression to the World Series is now drawing comparisons to the Yankees nightmarish collapse in 2004, when the Red Sox overcame a a 3-0 deficit to win four in a row and send the Yankees home for the off season.

Down three games to one in the best of sevens series, the Los Angeles Angels staged a come from behind rally in the seventh to snag the win on Thursday and take the series to 3-2.

There’s still plenty of work ahead for Los Angeles, however. To advance to the World Series, they will have to win the final two games of the ALCS - both in New York - and beat the Yankees dominant ace C.C. Sabathia in the final game of the series.

The winner will face the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series, who defeated the Dodgers four game to one and now have a chance to rest while the Angels and Yankees battle it out.
